  • Realizing high speed rotational performance and low vibration characteristic by reviewing material and shape of retainer
  • Contributing to shorter machining time and improved machining accuracy for machine tools

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has developed the “Deep Groove Ball Bearing for High Speed Servo Motors” which realizes high speed rotational performance and low vibration characteristic. This is for servo motors used in drive section for machine tools. We will propose this bearing globally as a product that contributes to shortening processing time and improving processing accuracy for machine tools.

Background of development

In the manufacturing site, labor saving and improvement in productivity are underway against the decline in working population. Reflecting the background, machine tools increase high speed rotation in spindles for shorter processing times and improve processing accuracy for quality stabilization. As a result, bearings used in servo motors that generate driving force for machine tools are also required to achieve high speed rotational performance and low vibration characteristic.

When bearings rotate at high speed, centrifugal force causes deformation and damage to retainers and heat is generated inside bearings. This time, we focused on retainer behavior that causes vibration, and by reviewing materials and shapes of the retainer to stabilize retainer behavior, NTN has newly developed the bearing for servo motors for machine tools that improve both high speed rotational performance and low vibration characteristic.

Features (compared to the conventional product)

1. High speed rotational performance By adopting the newly developed retainer, the product improves the temperature rise characteristic in the high speed area and achieves significant improvements in high speed rotational performance (dmn value*1 of 1.9 million, 40% improvement compared to the conventional product). Rigidity is increased by reviewing materials of the retainer to reduce deformation due to centrifugal force. In addition, retainer shape is also optimized to increase the amount of grease-filled to improve lubrication.
2. Low vibration Approximately 50% reduction compared to the conventional product. It achieves low vibration characteristic by reviewing retainer pocket shape to make contact between the retainer and rolling elements more stable.
  1. An indicator that expresses the rotational performance of bearings and is multiplied bearing pitch circle diameter (mm) by rotational speed (min-1)

NTN will globally propose this product for servo motors for machine tools and the “Low Dust Generation Bearing for Servo Motors*2,” which leads to the miniaturization of servo motors for robots and contribute to resolution of various issues facing the manufacturing sites through supporting performance improvements such as the miniaturization and speed up of servo motors widely used as driving source for various industrial machinery.

NTN will exhibit this product at the “JIMTOF2024 The 32nd JAPAN INTERNATIONAL MACHINE TOOL FAIR” held in Tokyo Big Sight from November 5 to 10.
