JIMTOF2022 the 31st Japan International Machine Tool Fair

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) exhibits at “JIMTOF2022 the 31st Japan International Machine Tool Fair” held in Tokyo Big Sight, Japan from November 8 to 13.

While many companies are accelerating the capital investment and production globally, the manufacturing sites promote to use IoT technology and collaborate machine tools and robots to further improve productivity and save labor. There are also urgent needs to solve various ESG issues such as carbon neutrality, work style reform, and improvement of working environment.

At “JIMTOF2022,” NTN exhibits various products and services with the theme of “Navigate your future” to contribute to the future of the earth, society, and people and solving various ESG issues. Under this theme, NTN divides its exhibition booth into three areas of “Ultra-high speed/high precision technology,” “IoT technology,” and “Robotics technology.”

Ultra-high speed/high precision technology NTN exhibits high performance precision rolling bearings for machine tools including the ULTAGE series* which contribute to saving energy, improving productivity, and reducing environmental load: “Machine Tool Main Spindle Bearing with Air Cooling Spacer” that realizes high-speed rotational performance and high rigidity by adopting its proprietary air-cooling technology, and “Angular Contact Ball Bearing for High-Speed and Heavy-Cutting Machine Tools” that realizes both high-speed rotational performance and high load capacity.
IoT technology NTN exhibits products and services that enables to monitor conditions and detect abnormalities of bearings for operation status monitoring and remote controlling of facility with IoT technology: bearing diagnostic application compatible with industrial IoT platform “Edgecross,” “Sensor Integrated Bearing Unit” for Machine Tool Spindles that realizes advanced condition monitoring near bearing raceway surface by building sensors into outer ring spacer adjoining bearing, and Sensor Integrated Bearing “Talking Bearing™” that integrates bearing with sensors, power generation units, and wireless device and wirelessly transmits information on temperature, vibration, and rotational speed of the bearing.
Robotics technology NTN exhibits products that contribute to enhancement robot function and automation/labor saving at manufacturing sites for further utilization of robots and factory automation: bearings for robots including “Low Dust Generation Bearing for Servo Motors” that contributes to reducing size and increasing power of servo motors for robots by reducing the amount of dust generated from bearing. We also demonstrate the appearance inspection with Wrist Joint Module “i-WRISTTM” that can move smoothly like human wrist at high-speed to perform minor position (angle) changes, and dynamic exhibit of “TRINITTE,” a feeder for picking robot to realize stable and continuous picking by linking with camera and picking robot.

Machine Tool Main Spindle Bearing with Air Cooling Spacer

By applying air cooling spacer with NTN's proprietary air-cooling technology to bearing for main spindles of machine tools, it ensures high rigidity of the main shafts, while also achieving the world's highest standard of high-speed rotational performance. There are product lineups with grease lubrication and air-oil lubrication for customers to select the most suitable bearing specifications according to the usage conditions.

Angular Contact Ball Bearing for High-Speed and Heavy-Cutting Machine Tools

This product has a high-speed rotational performance of dmn value of 1.6 million as well as 30 % improved allowable axial load capacity compared to NTN's conventional products. This enables a single machine tool to cover the rough machining work and finishing processes that previously required numerous machine tools. It also helps to further increase productivity of machining centers and complex processing units.

Multi Track Magnetic Encoder Integrated Rolling Bearing

This is a unit product integrating bearing with magnetic type encoder. By reading changes in magnetic poles of “Multi Track Magnetic Ring” attached to inner ring of bearing with magnetic sensor IC equipped with outer ring, it can detect rotational speed, direction, and absolute angle. This magnetic type encoder has industry's highest level of angle detection resolution (maximum 20bit, resolution of approximately 0.00034°), and can be used in conditions with dust and oil.

The product eliminates the need for transmission devices like couplings that connect joint shaft and rotary encoder, achieving downsizing/lightweighting of robot joint. The operation for mounting/setting up couplings is also eliminated, making assembly of robot easier. Dimensions and load capacity of the bearing in the product are the same as those of conventional bearings, and can be applied to a wide range of robots.

“Sensor Integrated Bearing Unit” for Machine Tool Spindles

This product improved the NTN conventional product that contributes to preventing seizing of bearings for spindles by advanced condition monitoring near bearing raceway surface. It has a wireless communication function and mounting load detection sensor as new functions.

By integrating two devices ,an electro-magnetic generator that generates electricity using the rotation of spindle and a radio device, we deleted the external connection cables, and wiring space.

The load detection sensor to detect bearing loads and their trends contributes to improved machining quality and productivity, and it also enables adjustments to mount bearings in a short time. By detecting a sudden increase of preload that occurs before seizing, it also helps prevent seizing of bearings for spindles in place of the heat flow sensor used in the NTN conventional product.

As its dimension and load capacity are same as those of standard bearings, it can be replaced from bearings used in existing ones, enabling advanced condition monitoring and early abnormality detection easily.

    • Have compatibility with standard bearings by incorporating sensors, power generation units, and wireless devices into standard bearing without changing dimension and load capacity

Low Dust Generation Bearing for Servo Motors

Compared to the conventional product, this product reduces the amount of dust generated from bearing by approximately 90%.It also reduces the rotational torque by approximately 50% by applying newly developed grease and seal. The new grease suppresses dust generation by improving its components and mixtures, and the new seal achieves both high sealing performance and low torque by improving the shape to uniformize the contact force of the sliding part between the inner ring and the contact type seal.

By applying this product with servo motors for industrial robots, servo motors can be downsized by eliminating the sealing devices, and increase power output by reducing rotational torque of bearings.

Wrist Joint Module “i-WRIST™”

It is a compact positioning module that achieves a wide range of angle movement and contribute to save the space. This can move smoothly like human wrist at high-speed to perform minor position (angle) changes, which vertically articulated robots are not good at doing.

“i-WRIST™” contributes to automation of various processes, makes them efficient and reduces manual labor such as appearance inspection, grease application, and cleaning when combining “i-WRIST™” with other robots and attaching end effectors to the equipment.
