Environmental Management Systems
Environmental Management Organization
The NTN Group has acquired third-party certification for environmental management systems (ISO14001) across our global operations, and we are building an environmental management organization that is structured to promote compliance with the environmental laws and regulations of each country and continually improve environmental performance. Multi-site certification* has been acquired in Japan (regarding Taira Forging Corporation, it has obtained certification independently), and all business sites work together to achieve environmental targets under the top management led by the executive officer in charge.
■Environmental Management Organization Chart
ISO14001 Assessment and Registration
In principle, our business sites acquire certification for environmental management systems (ISO 14001) within three years of operation, and all existing business sites globally have acquired certification. New business sites will gradually acquire certification in accordance with the above principle. In Japan, we acquire certification* using the multi-site method (regarding Taira Forging Corporation, it has obtained certification independently). Overseas, certification is acquired at each business site.

Violation of Environmental Laws and Regulations
In FY2023, there were no cases of serious penalties or sanctions imposed under environmental laws and regulations.
Environmental Education
The NTN Group conducts environmental education at various levels and for different job functions. Education by job level includes basic education for new employees in their induction training and practical education after assignment to a workplace, as well as training for newly promoted managers to address environmental issues at their respective workplaces from the perspective of managing risks and benefits. Training by job functions includes training sales departments and dealerships that serve as contact points for conducting surveys on customers about environmentally hazardous substances contained in products, on how to respond to such surveys, training on the related laws and regulations, and training for internal auditors of environmental management systems. Furthermore, we strive to raise environmental awareness among all employees by ensuring thorough understanding of important environmental measures and holding various events every June as part of the Environment Month events. As part of our internal efforts to promote carbon neutrality (CN), we have been working to enhance employees’ understanding of our carbon neutrality initiatives through internal newsletters and CN briefings. We will continue to utilize post-COVID digitalization and promote the use of online training and e-learning for environmental education in conjunction with holding conventional group training sessions.
Raising Environmental Awareness
In order to raise environmental awareness, the NTN Group in Japan distributes “Environment Policy Cards” to all employees (including personnel such as resident contractors, temporary staff, and subcontractors who work at business sites). In addition, during Environment Month in June every year, we (1) conduct environmental education, (2) conduct energy conservation patrols, (3) publish environmental news, and (4) display an Environment Month poster from the Ministry of the Environment. As an example, Mikumo Works (Matsusaka-shi, Mie, Japan) published its own “Environmental News” to deepen the understanding of measures to reduce plastic consumption.

Emergency Response
Emergency Response Drill
NTN Kinan Corporation (Kamitonda-cho, Nishimuro-gun, Wakayama, Japan) conducted a drill on how to respond to the hypothetical situation of oil leakage from drums or other containers, for all 169 of its employees in FY2023. The drill was conducted in every section and involved reading out the procedures for dealing with leakage incidents, learning how to check and handle the storage locations for sandbags, ladles, and absorption mats, as well as verifying the location and route of drains and gutters. It was a productive drill that included the provision of training for workers who did not know where to place sandbags and absorption mats, improving and relocating the storage location for oil leakage equipment to the nearest consolidated place, based on problems identified during the drill, and increasing the number of sandbags and absorption mats. In addition, improvements were made to enable swift response by installing oil leakage detection sensors on equipment placed near drains or gutters. Going forward, NTN Group will continue to conduct such drills and strive to respond quickly during an emergency.
Major Leakage/Spillage Accidents
In FY2023, there were no major leakage or spillage accidents caused by the NTN Group. We will continue to take measures to prevent the leakage and spillage of oil and environmentally hazardous substances and strive to prevent environmental pollution accidents.
Environmental Accounting
In order to efficiently promote environmental conservation, the NTN Group in Japan quantifies the costs and economic benefits of environmental conservation by classifying them based on guidelines drawn up by the Ministry of the Environment. Environmental conversation costs for FY2023 were approximately 3.301 billion yen, including research and development of eco-friendly products, and the economic benefits of environmental conservation measures was approximately 1.31 billion yen.
