NTN Receives the 2013 Japan Powder Metallurgy Association, Effort PrizeJanuary 22, 2014
NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has received Encouragement the Effort Prize at the 2013 Industry Award sponsored by the Japan Powder Metallurgy Association.
Award Name
Japan Powder Metallurgy Association, Encouragement Prize
Awarded Product
Sintered hydrodynamic bearing for super thin fan motor
Product Overview
A sintered hydrodynamic bearing with a hydrodynamic groove formed on the inside bore surface, used in super thin fan motors. This product optimized the hydrodynamic groove specifications with a greater precision hydrodynamic bearing width, optimized groove angle bearing clearance, and greater hydrodynamic groove greater. A higher precision mold and optimized press conditions helped to optimize the groove machining conditions, as well as develop a lubrication oil that ensures a high rigidity at low vaporization. As a result, this thin bearing ensures formation of a positive oil film and non-contact support and enable mass-production of sintered hydrodynamic bearings for super thin fan motors with a high level of silence and reliability.

Reason for Receiving the Award
By optimizing the groove shape on the thin sintered hydrodynamic bearing and machining process of the groove, this product helped to achieve a thinner fan-motor. In addition, the high sales figures were praised highly, and led to selection for this prize.
