Transportable Independent Power Supply “N3 N-CUBE” Adopted at 11 Locations Nationwide, Including Disaster-Resilient Roadside Stations May 21, 2026 Products News

  • Operating on 100% renewable energy and functioning as a disaster-relief container toilet usable during power and water outages

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has had its Transportable Independent Power Supply “N3 N-CUBE” adopted as a disaster-relief container toilet at Disaster-Resilient Roadside Stations (Michi-no-Eki) designated by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). To date, a total of 11 units has been installed nationwide

Disaster-resilient roadside stations are facilities selected by MLIT from among roadside stations across Japan to serve as wide-area disaster response hubs, providing logistical support and assistance to evacuees in the event of large-scale disasters.

Following the initial installation of one “N3 N-CUBE” unit as a disaster-relief container toilet at the Disaster-Resilient Roadside Station “Shimotsuke” in Tochigi Prefecture*1, installations were gradually expanded in various regions. As a result, 11 units have now been installed across the Kanto, Kinki, and Kyushu regions.

The adopted “N3 N-CUBE” is equipped with a fully self-contained, water-circulation flush toilet system featuring a wastewater treatment tank. As it does not require external water supply or drainage infrastructure, the system can maintain a clean and sanitary restroom environment regardless of installation location. In addition, the system operates on 100% renewable energy generated by solar panels, allowing continued use even during power outages or water supply disruptions. Its high mobility enables transportation by truck, providing both a stable power supply and a sanitary restroom environment even in locations without established electricity or water infrastructure. Furthermore, the “N3 N-CUBE” is scheduled to be operated as a phase-free disaster prevention facility, enabling use both during normal times—such as at roadside stations—and in the event of a disaster, when it can be relocated to affected areas as needed.

NTN will continue to expand the deployment of independent power supply systems utilizing renewable energy, including the “N3 N-CUBE”, across a wide range of applications. Through these efforts, NTN aims to contribute to sustainable growth and to the resolution of social issues.

The container is equipped with both the toilet unit and a wastewater treatment tank that breaks down and purifies sewage. Through biological treatment, the processed wastewater is reused as flushing water, eliminating the need for external water supply or drainage infrastructure. The system operates using electricity generated by solar panels and other renewable energy sources, suppressing odors while providing a stable and sanitary restroom environment even during disasters or in locations with infrastructure constraints, such as temporary facilities and tourist destinations.
