NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has newly developed “High Speed and Long Operating Life Grease” to meet dmn value*1 of 1.9 million of high speed rotation as an industry's highest level for grease lubricated bearings for machine tool spindles.

Background of development
As efforts to achieve carbon neutrality are accelerating in various industries, saving energy of machine tools is also underway. Some methods are used to lubricate bearings for machine tool spindles: air-oil lubrication and grease lubrication. Air-oil lubrication is suitable for high speed rotation due to its cooling effectiveness and stable supply of oil, while there are issues in terms of environmental impact caused by oil mist and the need for energy to continue supplying air.
For this reason, there are urgent needs to replace the air-oil lubricated bearings with grease lubricated bearings. However, as for bearings for machine tool spindles, where high speed rotational performance is required, there have been some challenges that the grease cannot be stably supplied to the raceway and cage pocket-sliding parts as the grease is removed from the raceway by the rotating balls, as well as grease deteriorates due to the heat generation of bearings.
NTN has recently developed the “High Speed and Long Operating Life Grease” that overcomes these challenges.

In addition to the need for high speed rotational performance, bearings for machine tool spindles are also required to improve wear resistance and seizure resistance. To meet these market needs, NTN will continue to improve its wear resistance and seizure resistance by applying heat treatment technology “HA-C*2 (High Antiwear and Capacity)”, which was developed in May of this year.
NTN will continue to develop machining techniques such as materials and heat treatment in addition to bearing specifications. By responding to every need for machine tools, we will contribute to improve productivity, energy saving, and achieving carbon neutrality in the society.
NTN will exhibit this product that contributes to the improvement of machine tool processing speed and saving energy at the “JIMTOF2024 The 32nd JAPAN INTERNATIONAL MACHINE TOOL FAIR” held in Tokyo Big Sight from November 5 to 10.
