NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has developed the resin retainer realizing high speed rotational performance supporting dmn value*1 of 1.35 million of industry's highest level as injection molded resin retainers for grease lubricated bearings for machine tool spindles. We will contribute to shortening machining times and saving energy of machining tools by expanding the application range of grease lubricated bearings with the developed injection molded resin retainers adapting to high speed rotation, which feature with excellent productivity as well.

Background of development
As rotation speed of machine tools becomes higher to shorten machining times, high speed rotational performance is also required for bearings for machine tool spindles. Either air-oil or grease is used as lubrication methods for spindle bearings. Generally, air-oil lubrication is used for high speed rotation. However, since air-oil lubrication requires additional facilities for supplying air-oil and collecting oil mist, the need for grease lubrication for high speed rotation has increased in recent years along with the shift to grease lubrication for saving energy.
NTN has realized high speed rotational performance in injection molded resin retainers with excellent productivity by optimizing the design and materials.

In addition, this retainer controls the greasing behavior during the initial rotation after mounting by optimizing the shape, suppressing the temperature rise including the running-in operation and realizing a long operating life design.
NTN will apply the newly developed retainer to grease lubricated bearings for machine tools including the ULTAGE Series*2, and propose the switch from air-oil lubricating type bearings globally. In addition to retainers, we are developing grease and other components of bearings to pursue further high speed rotational performance with grease lubricated bearings, contributing to improved productivity and saving energy in various manufacturing sites.
NTN will exhibit this product at the “JIMTOF2024 The 32nd JAPAN INTERNATIONAL MACHINE TOOL FAIR” held in Tokyo Big Sight from November 5 to 10.
