[Compact and Improved Usability with Parking Function added to Electric Brake Actuator]

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has developed a lightweight and compact “Electromechanical Brake System with Parking Brake” with excellent durability, as a next generation braking system for automobiles.

The electric braking system which is one of the by-wire (electrification of vehicles) technologies is expected as the next generation braking system, which will improve the running stability with high responsiveness brought about by electronic control.

The lightweight and compact “Electromechanical Brake System with Parking Brake” developed by NTN, improved usability by integrating a parking brake function with an electric brake actuator* utilizing a planetary roller screw type.

Moreover, the actuation and release of the parking brake operation can be performed quietly and instantly (about 0.3 sec.) by the electronic control. By automatically releasing the parking brake when starting and activating when stopping, safety and usability improves compared with manual parking brakes.

NTN will exhibit this new product at the “The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011” held from December 2-11 at Tokyo Big Sight, in order to expand the product into the market globally.

* An electric brake actuator utilizing a planetary roller screw type, excellent for compactification and weight reduction (released in 2007).

Features

Achieved a parking brake mechanism with a structure, where the lock pin of a solenoid fixed to the housing slides in/out of the lock pin hole established on the side of the internal gear!

  1. Improvement in safety and usability
    • Allows for simplification of parking operation by electronic control of the parking brake
(Automatic parking, release failure prevention and etc.)
  2. Lightweight and compact
    • Arranged a parking brake mechanism in the space between the planetary roller screw mechanism and the motor
