New Series of product for low cost, small vehicles in BRIC and other markets
Development of “V series detachable type hub joint”

NTN Corporation (hereafter NTN) has developed the “V (value) series detachable-type hub joint” for low cost vehicle applications. This product targets newly developing markets where the demand for such vehicles is expected to increase. The hub joint is a new configuration using a hub bearing (hereafter H/B) and a V series constant velocity joint (hereafter V series CVJ). They are integrated into a one-piece design by a new connecting method*1, with detaching and re-attaching possible for vehicle servicing purposes.

In recent years, there is an increasing need for automotive products with exceptional cost value because of the expanding market demand for low priced vehicles in developing countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC).

The “V series detachable hub joint” with improved cost value was developed utilizing NTN's superior technology as a specialized manufacturer of H/B's and CVJ's:  (1) New-configuration H/B;  (2) Integration of H/B and CVJ into one-piece design with new connecting method*1;  (3) Structure that allows detaching and re-attaching to be possible;  (4) V series CVJ

In newly developing countries such as BRIC, price competition will be extremely important. In response to these needs, NTN will be supplying the “V series detachable hub joint” globally to customers as a product with superior value.

*1 New connecting method: New technology that includes CVJ and new-configuration H/B press-fit into a one piece design, forming concave-convex grooves on the CVJ outer ring O.D. with grooves on the H/B cylindrical bore.

[ Features ]

a. Superior cost value
b. Light weight - mass reduced by approx 12% (compared with current H/B + CVJ)
c. High performance - adoption of new connecting method results in:
  • No lash between H/B and CVJ
  • No occurrence of stick-slip noise*2
d. Improved assembly performance - assembly process time by users reduced by integration of H/B and CVJ into one piece.
e. Improved serviceability - dissasembly/replacement of H/B and CVJ is possible

*2 Stick-slip noise: Phenomenon of a noise that occurs at a contact surface between H/B and CVJ when torque is transmitted from CVJ to H/B.
