Junior Summit Participants Visit “Green Power Park” Natural Energy Circulation ModelMay 2, 2016Press Release

On April 23, junior high and high school students from G7 countries participating in the Junior Summit visited NTN Corporation's (hereafter, NTN) Advanced Technology R&D Center located in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, where they were invited on a tour of the “Green Power Park,” natural energy circulation model, where energy generated by wind, water, and solar power is used for electric vehicles (EV), vegetable farm and other facilities.

The “2016 Junior Summit in Mie” was held from April 22 to 28 in the leadup to the “Ise-Shima Summit,” with 28 male and female students aged between 15 and 18 years old selected from G7 countries at the Ise-Shima Summit discussing environmental and economic issues under the topic of “A planet for the next generation - Environment and sustainable society.”

The 28 Junior Summit participants and nine high school students from Mie Prefecture who visited the Advanced Technology R&D Center were first invited to the facility conference room to watch a video outlining the history and development of bearings that assist with energy efficiency as well as information on power generator technology using natural energy sources.

This was followed by a tour of the Green Power Park, where NTN employees showed the students power-generated equipment such as vertical axis wind turbines, micro hydro turbines and wind and solar light hybrid street lights developed by NTN, as well as vegetable farm that utilize the generated energy for purposes such as illumination.

Promoting the natural energy business is one of the major themes raised in the medium-term management plan “NTN 100” and NTN is focusing on development of compact wind turbines and micro hydro turbines. The tour provided these children who will play a key role in the future an example of a circulation model operating in a small-scale community instead of a large-scale initiative, with the hope that the tour will evoke vibrant discussions about the environment and sustainable societies.

About Green Power Park

Green Power Park is a natural energy recycling model proposed by NTN. It utilizes the natural energy of wind, water, and sunlight and uses the generated power to recharge electric vehicles and to power air conditioning in vegetable farm that cultivate vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes.

The natural energy is collected efficiently and optimally distributed locations where it is needed, this reduces the burden on the earth and aims to achieve a sustainable society for the next generations.
