AUTO SHANGHAI 2017

NTN will run a booth at the “AUTO SHANGHAI 2017.”

A wide range of products will be exhibited with the theme “NTN Makes the World Turn,” including various bearings and driveshafts, as well as products used in many areas of vehicles and module products designed for electrification. A section will also be set up to give visitors a chance to use a drive simulator with steer-by-wire functions equipped with the Mechanical Clutch Unit (MCU) for Next-generation Steering.

We look forward to seeing you at the event.

Main exhibits

Mechanical Clutch Unit (MCU) for Next-generation Steering

A compact clutch product for steer-by-wire systems that combine an electromagnetic clutch and roller clutch. A high load capacity design ensures a high level of reliability when the mechanical link is active. The system is used as a backup mechanism that provides a mechanical link between the steer-by-wire steering system and tires, which is linked in the event that there is an electrical malfunction to allow ordinary steering operations.

A drive simulator will also be on show so that visitors can use the features of steer-by-wire. The functions of the next-generation steer-by-wire system equipped with the MCU will be outlined in an easy-to-understand manner on the large monitor in the simulator. Visitors will be able to experience for themselves the difference in steering that conventional systems cannot provide.

Two Motor On-board Drive System

A drive system for next-generation EV with the left and right wheels powered by individual motors. Using individual motors to drive the left and right wheels and controlling the drive power of each wheel to suit the driving conditions improves driving stability and turning capability drastically over the conventional one motor type system. Optimally designed hub bearings and driveshafts are supplied as a package for better performance and cost efficiency.

Rear-wheel Independent Steering System

A steer-by-wire steering system that converts the steering amount of the steering wheel to an electrical signal to drive the wheel-turning actuator according to the amount, and changes the direction of the tires, and that has been applied for use to turn the rear wheels. In addition to a one body combined-type layout, the system is also capable of toe angle control which contributes to better driving performance.

Grease Lubrication Type High Speed Deep Groove Ball Bearing

Uses a new plastic retainer with revised material combination and shape to minimize the level of distortion due to centrifugal forces when operating at high rotational speeds, and provide a smooth grease supply along the track surface to increase sliding between the retainer and steel balls. The filled grease has also been optimized to resolve issues related to the lack of lubrication when operating at high rotational speeds.

Lightweight Driveshaft for FR vehicle

Operating angles required for rear applications have been restricted, to optimize the shape of main components and achieve a more compact size. The use of hollow shafts with wall thickness reduced as far as possible and compact boot helped to reduce the weight to 2.2 kg each, approximately 30% lighter than conventional driveshafts.

Super Low Friction Hub Bearing

The use of low friction grease drastically reduces grease stirring resistance during rotation. Minute dimples have been implemented into the seal lip (edge of seals made of rubber) sliding surface and a specially developed low-viscosity grease is applied to reduce the wear resistance of seal contact areas. Rotational friction of bearing was reduced by 33% (compared to the conventional product) and fuel efficiency improved by approximately 0.28%.

Auto Tensioner with the Variable Damper Mechanism for ISG-Equipped Engine

Making the tensioner available for ISG-equipped engines where the alternator is also used as the starter helps to adjust the belt tension automatically, from tighter when starting the engine to looser when the engine is operating. This improves reliability when starting, and reduces fuel consumption when driving. The tensioner also contributes to better engine efficiency of vehicles equipped with idling stop systems.

Low Torque Seal Ring

The seal rings for automotive transmissions that deliver low torque, low wear and fewer oil leaks by optimizing the plastic composite material composition, as well as incorporating a world first V-shaped lubrication groove on the surface of the seal rings.
